The History of the Russian RPK
The RPK (Ruchnoy Pulemyot Kalashnikova) was developed in 1961 as a squad automatic weapon (SAW) variant of the AK-47, designed by Mikhail Kalashnikov. Manufactured by Molot, the RPK replaced the RPD as the Soviet Union’s standard light machine gun, offering a highly durable, extended-barrel version of the AK platform.
