The History of the Romanian MD63
The MD63 is the Romanian variant of the AKM, manufactured at the Cugir Arms Factory beginning in 1963. It was issued to Romanian military and security forces and later exported to allied nations. The MD63 maintains the same stamped receiver and internal mechanics as the Soviet AKM, but it is distinctively known for its palm swell beech wood stock set, which provides additional grip and control.
During the Cold War, Romanian AK rifles gained a reputation for their rugged reliability, battlefield durability, and practical design. Many of these rifles saw decades of hard military use, making original, battle-worn kits highly sought after by collectors.
